Over a hundred nations have banned school-teachers from hitting children. Belize, a little country in Central America, is the latest in a rapidly growing list. We are moving quickly towards a world where no children anywhere can be hit – the science is clear: hitting just hurts, and never leads to ‘good’ behaviour in the end.
But Australia is one of only two developed nations (with USA) where teachers can legally hit children in some schools. Why is our education system so backward on that issue?
